Indometacin is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug with anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic effects.
Indomethacin reduces prostaglandin (PG) synthesis by inhibiting cyclooxygenase, inhibits the formation of pain-sensing nerve impulses in inflammatory tissues, inhibits inflammatory response, including inhibiting the chemotaxis of white blood cells and the release of lysosomal enzymes, thereby producing antipyretic, analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. Indomethacin is mainly used for acute and chronic rheumatic or rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, bursitis, tenosynovitis, capsulitis, osteoarthritis, acute gout and cancer pain that are not easily tolerated to salicylic acid drugs, or have no obvious efficacy.
