3-methyl-4-propan-2-ylphenol (IPMP, o-Cymen-5-ol, CAS 3228-02-2) is a mild broad-spectrum phenolic antibacterial preservative mainly applied in cosmetics and personal care products with a legal maximum addition of 0.1%. It exerts comprehensive effects including product antisepsis, acne removal, oil regulation, anti-inflammation, deodorization and anti-dandruff by suppressing bacteria, fungi and yeasts; meanwhile it serves as an antioxidant stabilizer for skincare formulas. It is also extensively formulated into toothpaste, mouthwash for halitosis and gingivitis improvement, external pharmaceutical disinfectants, household fabric sanitizers, and acts as an important intermediate for organic synthesis and fine chemical manufacturing.
