D‑Altrose (CAS 1990‑29‑0) is a rare aldohexose monosaccharide, the C‑3 epimer of D‑mannose with formula C₆H₁₂O₆. It exists as white crystalline solid, scarcely found in nature and mostly obtained via chemical or enzymatic synthesis. It shows moderate water‑solubility and faint sweet taste. It is hardly adopted in mainstream food industry due to high manufacturing cost. It mainly serves as biochemical research substrate for characterizing aldose isomerases, exploring carbohydrate metabolism and glycobiology mechanisms.
