Zein (CAS 9010-66-6) is the main storage protein of corn, recovered as a co-product of corn wet-milling. It appears as a pale yellow, odorless powder (~25–45 kDa) that is insoluble in water but soluble in 60–95% aqueous ethanol and alkaline solutions. Its high hydrophobic amino acid content allows it to form tough, glossy films with moisture, grease, oxygen and UV resistance.
Main Uses: As a natural film former in coatings, varnishes, printing inks and paper/board barrier layers; as a binder for wood, cardboard and composites; in bioplastics, fibers and electrospun nonwovens; as a microencapsulation wall material for flavors, fragrances and agrochemicals; and in cosmetics (INCI: ZEIN) as a film former and hair/skin conditioner.

Uses:
Water-insoluble; soluble in 60–95% aqueous ethanol, 70–80% aqueous acetone, alkaline solutions (pH >11), and glycols — insoluble in pure water and absolute ethanol.
~75% hydrophobic amino acids (rich in glutamine 21–26%, leucine ~20%, proline ~10%, alanine ~10%), deficient in lysine and tryptophan → low nutritional value but excellent water resistance.
Rod-shaped α-helical molecules that self-assemble into transparent, glossy, tough films upon solvent evaporation, with moisture-proof, oxygen-barrier, grease-resistant, aroma-retaining, UV-resistant and antistatic properties.

A: For small QTY and low value product, we can provide sample for free exclude shipping cost. For high value sample, we will charge the basic sample cost, but we can refund all the cost if customers place order after sample test.
