Dexlansoprazole is used in the treatment of gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers, anastomotic ulcers, and reflux esophagitis.
In the acidic environment of the thin tube of parietal cells, dexlansoprazole transforms into an active sulfinamide derivative attached to the sulfhydryl group of H+-K+- (ATP) adenosine triphosphatase (H+-K+-ATPase catalyzes the last step of the gastric acid secretion process), so it passivates H+-K+-ATPase and inhibits gastric acid secretion regulated by both the central and peripheral systems.
