Moxifloxacin is mainly used to treat respiratory infections, genitourinary infections, abdominal infections and so on.
The mechanism of action of moxifloxacin is mainly to inhibit bacterial DNA synthesis, play a rapid bactericidal effect, and can act on bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV., thereby causing the fragmentation of enzyme-DNA complex. Moxifloxacin stabilizes the enzyme-DNA complex in its state after the DNA strand is cut, terminating DNA replication, resulting in cytotoxic effects. The main site of action of moxifloxacin on most gram-negative bacteria is DNA gyrase, while the site of action on gram-positive bacteria is mainly topoisomerase IV.
