Cefpirome sulfate has a broad antimicrobial spectrum, including gram-positive and negative cocci, and has antibacterial activity against enterobacteriaceae, which produce Class I β-lactamase.
Cefpirome sulfate works by blocking the synthesis of major cell wall polymers-peptidoglycans. Because it rapidly penetrates the cell wall of bacteria and binds with high affinity with target enzyme (penicillin-binding protein), it can have a bactericidal effect on a fairly broad spectrum of gram-negative and gram-positive pathogens at low concentrations.
