Naproxen sodium is used to relieve a variety of mild to moderate pain, such as tooth extraction and other post-operative pain, primary dysmenorrhea and headaches.
Naproxen sodium has strong anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect, and its main biological effects are: (1) inhibit the activity of prostaglandin synthetase, thereby reducing capillary permeability; (2) reduce the production of peroxide by macrophages and exert anti-inflammatory effects; (3) stimulate T to inhibit cell activity; (4) Reduce pain sensitivity.

Anti-inflammatory: Reduces tissue inflammation by inhibiting prostaglandin production at the site of injury/infection.
Analgesic: Relieves mild to moderate pain by blocking pain signaling pathways.
Antipyretic: Lowers fever by acting on the hypothalamic thermoregulatory center.
Mild to moderate acute pain: Headaches (including migraines), dental pain, menstrual cramps (dysmenorrhea), musculoskeletal pain (e.g., back pain, sprains, strains, osteoarthritis/joint pain), post-operative pain (short-term use).
Chronic pain: Long-term management of pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and other inflammatory arthropathies (to reduce pain, stiffness, and swelling).
Treatment of inflammatory conditions: Rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (for children ≥2 years old, under medical supervision), ankylosing spondylitis, gouty arthritis (acute attacks, to reduce inflammation and pain).
Soft tissue inflammatory disorders: Bursitis, tendonitis, tenosynovitis.
Management of fever associated with infections (e.g., viral/bacterial infections) or other causes (e.g., post-vaccination fever), when fever is persistent or accompanied by discomfort.
Off-label use: Short-term relief of pain from tendinitis/bursitis, and adjunctive management of migraine (in combination with antiemetics for severe migraines).
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to naproxen, other NSAIDs, or aspirin (risk of cross-reactivity); history of asthma, urticaria, or allergic reactions triggered by NSAIDs/aspirin; active peptic ulcer disease; severe renal/hepatic impairment; third-trimester pregnancy (may cause fetal cardiovascular/renal adverse effects).
Adverse effects: Common gastrointestinal symptoms (nausea, dyspepsia, abdominal pain; long-term use increases risk of GI ulcers/bleeding); rare but serious risks (cardiovascular thrombotic events, renal dysfunction, hepatotoxicity, allergic reactions).
Drug interactions: Avoid concurrent use with other NSAIDs/aspirin (increased GI/cardiovascular risk); adjust dosage when combined with anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin) or diuretics (reduced diuretic efficacy, increased renal risk); caution with lithium (elevated lithium levels) and methotrexate (increased methotrexate toxicity).
Dosage considerations: For acute pain/fever, short-term use (≤10 days for pain, ≤3 days for fever) at the lowest effective dose; long-term use requires regular medical monitoring.
