Pancuronium bromide is used as an adjunct to surgical or orthopedic anesthesia to obtain adequate muscle relaxation and can also be used for convulsive diseases such as tetanus. After binding to N2 choline receptors on skeletal muscle cells, pancuronium bromide does not produce a depolarization effect, but competitively blocks the depolarization of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, thereby producing a skeletal muscle relaxation effect. Pancuronium bromide has no histamine release, no ganglion blockade, and does not cause hypotension.
