5-Fluorocytidine is mainly used to treat systemic infections, lung infections, meningitis, urinary tract infections and other fungi such as cryptococcus and candida. 5-Fluorocytidine enters the fungal intracellular deamination to 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and binds to RNA; 5-FC can also be converted to fluorouracil deoxynucleoside (FdUMP), which then forms deoxyurea to replace thymine nucleoside (dTMP), thereby preventing fungal DNA synthesis.
