Rifaximin is effective in treating a variety of gastrointestinal diseases such as bacterial intestinal infections, hepatic encephalopathy and inflammatory bowel disease.
Rifaximin has a wide antibacterial spectrum, strong antibacterial effect, can form a high blood concentration in the intestine, and has high antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus faecalius in gram-positive aerobic bacteria, Salmonella spp., Shigella and Escherichia coli in gram-negative aerobic bacteria, Yersinia enterocolitis, and Bacteroides in gram-positive anaerobic bacteria. Rifaximin works by inhibiting bacterial polymerases, blocking the transcription process of RNA, thereby inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial proteins, thereby reducing ammonia production.
